Profile: Jon Peddie

Dr. Jon Peddie is one of the pioneers of the graphics industry. After the successful launch of several graphics manufacturing companies, Peddie began JPA in 1984 to provide comprehensive data, information and management expertise to the computer graphics industry. In 2001 Peddie left JPA and formed Jon Peddie Research (JPR) to provide customer intimate consulting and market forecasting services. Peddie lectures at numerous conferences on topics pertaining to graphics technology and the emerging trends in digital media technology and has been named one of the most influential analysts. He is frequently quoted in trade and business publications, and contributes articles to numerous publications, has appeared CNN and TechTV, and most recently been elected president of the Siggraph Pioneers.

Peddie is also the author of several books including:

  • Graphics User Interfaces and Graphics Standards (1992)
  • High Resolution Graphics Display Systems (1994)
  • Multimedia and Graphics Controllers (1994)
  • And a contributor to Advances in Modeling, Animation, and Rendering (2002)

Kathleen Maher

Kathleen Maher has worked as an analyst and journalist in technical fields for more than ten years. In addition she has been a founding editor for several publications including the Austin Chronicle, a successful politics and entertainment magazine which has won several awards and has launched the careers of many notable writers in the fields of political journalism, entertainment, and fiction. In addition Maher helped launch Interactivity, a monthly multimedia magazine that  defined the need for informational resources for creative professionals. Henry Choy is an industry veteran of 19 years with senior level positions in sales and marketing. Henry has been involved with the graphics, video, and multimedia businesses since 1989 and delivered the first PC-based 3D texture mapping graphics card to Id Software in 1995. He has held various positions in engineering, ISV evangelism, business development, marketing, and sales with a number of leading companies. Henry has contributed to several successful startups.

Brad deGraf

Called by Wired " an icon of 3D Animation," and by Animation Magazine as one of the "people to watch in 2001," Brad deGraf has been a leader in computer animation in the entertainment industry since 1982, particularly in the areas of real-time characters, ride films, and the Web. He has a BA in Math from UC San Diego, and studied architecture at Princeton University and sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ted Pollak

Ted Pollak has been following the video game industry for over 20 years. The majority of Ted’s career has been in the field of investment management where he has experience with companies such as Wells Capital Management, SDR Capital Management, and Hambrecht & Quist. Combining his knowledge of games and finance, he founded and launched the Electronic Entertainment Fund, an investment partnership focused on entertainment technology. Ted is the Senior Gaming Analyst for JPR, where he contributes to TechWatch, writes an industry report, and provides consulting in various areas of entertainment technology.

Jake Richter

Jake Richter has been involved in the personal computer industry for over 26 years, in functions ranging from computer sales and repair to game design, software development, and journalism. He founded and then later sold Panacea, Inc., at one time the largest independent graphics display driver developer in the PC business. Jake was also the East Coast Editor for Jon Peddie's PC Graphics Report, and is the author of hundreds of magazine articles and several books on various aspects of graphics, display, gaming, and computer technology. Jake is presently a registered U.S. patent agent residing on the Caribbean island of Bonaire, operates a web hosting company and several e-commerce web sites, and provides technical advice and testimony in patent litigation matters to a wide range of clients. Most importantly, Jake is a gadget and game junkie. As a contributing editor for Jon Peddie Research, Jake provides insights to TechWatch readers on trends and issues in intellectual property, as well as the latest developments in game and entertainment technologies.

C. Robert Dow

Robert Dow is the senior researcher and benchmark analysts at JPR. Afectionetly known by his co-workers as Master Chief he is the COQC (chief of quality control). A former tennis, basketball, and golf star, after a almost fatal accident on the courts where he lost his left leg, he devoted his time to obtaining a degree in history from the University of San Francisco.

Robert Hollingsworth

Robert Hollingsworth went to work as a design engineer for Jon Peddie at Data Graphics in San Antonio, TX, in 1974. He has spent the 35 years since then managing Sales, Marketing and Engineering teams focused on systems, semiconductor, and software design. Robert has contributed articles on PCI-Express, USB and networking to publications such as Embedded Computing, and has also been an anonymous contributor to Tech Watch, commenting on trends in the evolution of client computing. Robert is the General Manager of SMSC's (NASDAQ:SMSC) Computing and Connectivity product line.

George Walsh

George Walsh (AKA Jimmy Olsen) is the Managing Editor and chief nit-picker of Jon Peddie Research’s bi-polar and bi-weekly prized parrot cage lining report TechWatch. Mr. Walsh has been steadily employed almost non-stop since his release from San Quentin in 1999 where he studied auto mechanics and journalism. Unable to find employment in auto repair he turned to writing and has been editing and writing ever since (except for that unfortunate six month set back due an inadvertent parole violation.)
