TiVo joins the ranks of companies that claims to be a home gateway. At CES the company debuted a system that enables users to share the content downloaded on the machine to be shared throughout the home through a wireless connection. Linksys is providing the connection. In addition, the service enables users to contact the TiVo remotely to schedule programming. Users with Series2 DVRs will be able to be able to upgrade to the service for $99. Additional PVRs in the house can get hooked up for another $49 per machine. The upgrade is a software download that comes via broadband or phone line. When activated, the TiVo will be able to communicate with PCs and Apple machines.
