In addition to all the cost moves (mostly due to disk price manipulations, and a smaller box) Sony is increasing the number of titles for the PS3. That’s helped them move almost a half million units in September And from a pixel point of view, the quality of some of the new games is really getting
impressive.
Take Unchartered 2: Among Thieves from Naughty Dog Studios. This is a 3rd person game, classified as “adventure.” It’s action packed, some fighting, lots of shooting, some running and jumping. It has a pretty interesting story, and it’s a lot like a movie. The art is really impressive and some of the scenes are grand in view.

It’s basically a kind of Indiana Jones quest, with the hero searching for a magical stone—that’s all I’ll say, don’t want to be a spoiler.
The street and interior scenes are equally impressive. Look at the pictured street scene and notice the shadows, the crouching guy, the reflection off his shield, the blur in the distance, and the wrinkles in the shirt, this is first class stuff. The game is officially out now, and you can get it almost anywhere for $59.99.
There are some good trailers that show the scale and art of the game pretty well—but remember they are demos—your mileage may vary. The set up of the story is here.
What do we think?
Console play is still too awkward due to the lack of precision in the controller (about 1/10 what you can get with a mouse on a PC game) and the screen resolution is limited to HD (1980 x 1020), whereas if it were rendered for a PC you could get 2560 x 1600, or higher with multi monitors.
That aside, it is a fun filled, exciting game, great artwork, good story, and it will keep you entertained for many hours.
