Humans just love robots and there is a great deal of work going on to build mechanical robots and in some cases give them enough AI smarts so they can function as companions or maybe even workers. Autodesk inaugurates its new robotics lab at Pier 9 with screening of Artoo in Love

Autodesk is building a robotics lab at Pier 9 and its first inaugural event was a screening of the movie Artoo in Love by Evan Atherton. The movie is a sweet three-minute short about the love life of an R2D2 robot. First time filmmaker Atherton worked as an intern at Autodesk before he finished up his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California at Berkley. Bentley’s most recent acquisition is a cloud-based approach to construction management. EADOC, based in Oakland, California, provides software to systematically track construction project documentation including design clarifications, inspectors’ daily reports, special inspections, memos, action items, deficiency items, and schedules.The terms of the deal were not disclosed; both Bentley Systems and EADOC, LLC., are privately held companies. Steady growth for workstation market - JPR releases Q4’14 WS study

Worldwide, the industry shipped approximately 1.03 million workstations in Q4'14, equating to a within-cyclical-norms 1.4% sequential growth. The Q4 saw the first significant volume of many new deskside WSs built on Intel's Haswell-E processor and Grantley platform, an event that helped bolster results. Market shares for the big three OEMs were generally stable, with the only notable exception being another uptick in Lenovo's share. Lenovo posted its highest-ever 13.6% share in Q4'14, up from 12.0% the quarter prior. HP nudged forward to 41.0%, while Dell took a step back to 32.5%. Read more on our WS report page.

Graphics processors, stand-alone discrete devices, and embedded processor-based GPUs are ubiquitous and essential components in all systems and device today from handheld mobile devices, PCs, and workstations, to TVs, servers, vehicle systems, signage, game consoles, medical equipment, and wearables. New technologies and semiconductor manufacturing processes are taking advantage of the ability of GPU power to scale. The GPU drives the screen of every device we encounter-it is the humane-machine interface. The fourth quarter is typically flat to up in the seasonality cycles of the past and was below the ten-year average of 6.86%.
