New SPECapc for Creo 9 performance benchmark

Updated to reflect new functionality in version 9 of the software.

SPEC has announced a new SPECapc for Creo 9 benchmark, enabling users to better understand how today’s computing systems will perform when running version 9 of PTC’s Creo software.

The non-profit Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) has just released its SPECapc for Creo 9 benchmark, a substantial standard update for gauging the performance of computing systems running PTC’s Creo 9 CAD software. PTC introduced Creo 9 in April 2022, following its yearly update schedule, with support for generative design, real-time simulation, advanced manufacturing, augmented reality, and industrial IoT.

SPEC works to produce, establish, maintain, and endorse a standardized set of performance benchmarks and tools for evaluating performance and energy efficiency for the latest computer systems. The SPECapc (Application Performance Characterization) project group is part of the SPEC Graphics and Workstation Performance Group (GWPG).

The SPECapc for Creo 9 benchmark uses three CPU and five GPU workflows when testing system performance while running Creo 9, with composite scores for graphics, CPU, and I/O performance.

The eight workflows included in the updated benchmark are:

  • CPU tests (explode and section models, regeneration, retessellation, mass properties analysis)
  • Render Studio (CPU rendering)
  • CPU convert: Export to IGES format
  • Shaded graphics
  • Shaded edge graphics
  • Shaded reflection graphics
  • No hidden graphics

The SPECapc for PTC Creo 9 benchmark is available as a free download to everyone except vendors of computers and related products and services that are not members of the SPEC/GWPG. Non-member computer product and service vendors can purchase the benchmark for $2,500.
