Nvidia and its founder/CEO, Jensen Huang, has been on a roll of late, as the year 2024 is proving to be remarkable for Huang and his company. And the hits keep coming. This week, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has revealed that Huang will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at its upcoming Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards on October 23, 2024.

The Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award honors a living individual whose ongoing contributions have significantly affected the state of television technology and engineering. In that regard, Huang is being recognized for his pioneering work in accelerated computing. “The company’s invention of the GPU (graphics processing unit) in 1999 sparked the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined computer graphics, and ignited the era of modern AI. Nvidia is now driving the platform shift of accelerated computing and generative AI, transforming the world’s largest industries and profoundly impacting society,” the Academy stated.

Huang joins many notable individuals who have received this honor, including computer graphics researcher Paul Debevec in 2022).

Less than a year ago, in December 2023, The Economist named Huang the best CEO for 2023. In 2024 (and in 2021), Time named him to its annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people. Earlier this year, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. In May of this year, he was recognized by Gold House as an A1 honoree recognizing Asian-Pacific leaders and influencers.

Huang’s overall list of achievements is significant and lengthy, as are the many accolades he has received during the course of his career at Nvidia, which he co-founded in 1993 at the age of 30. Huang has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering and is a recipient of the Semiconductor Industry Association’s highest honor, the Robert N. Noyce Award. He has also been awarded the IEEE Founder’s Medal, the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award, and more.

The Nvidia CEO is also known for his philanthropic endeavors, including the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Foundation supporting higher education, public health, and STEM initiatives. In October 2022, Huang and his wife, Lori, donated $50 million to their alma mater, Oregon State University, for the advancement of research in AI, climate science, and robotics.

So far, 2024 has also shaped up to be a good year for the company, setting a revenue record that beat expectations of $30 billion for the quarter ending July 28, 2024.
