Nvidia announces Grid

Nvidia today made good on past promises, announcing its new Nvidia Grid Computer Appliance. The device delivers remote GPU acceleration and a turnkey sensibility, enabling what Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang calls graphics as a service. The Grid VCA is a GPU-based system that runs complex 3D professional creation applications such as those from Adobe, Autodesk and Dassault Systèmes.

Bentley Pointools reveals prehistoric artwork on Stonehenge

Turning 850 gigabytes of 3D scan data into one coherent visualization led to the discovery of 71 carvings.The UK’s York Archaeological Trust was recently commissioned to use contemporary technology to spatially and digitally record England’s historic Stonehenge. The team decided to visualize the original point-cloud data and created a workflow using Bentley Pointools.

Nvidia extends Quadro line with four new Kepler-class cards

Nvidia is now shipping four new cards in its Quadro line of professional graphics cards. The power consumption of the Quadro K4000 running the previous generation Fermi technology was 420 Watts; in the Kepler edition of the K4000 electricity consumption has been reduced 80 Watts. Sony’s processor choices give them the edge

The PS3 came out in 2006 with a new IBM-Power-based SIMD CPU structure they called the Cell. Now, in 2013 Sony introduced the PS4 with an X86-based architecture that looks like a PC. Year-end surge pushes Autodesk to record fourth quarter

A late sales surge lifted Autodesk to record fourth-quarter revenue to close its fiscal year 2013. For the full year Autodesk revenue has roughly returned to where it was in 2008. Graphics add-in board shipments crash

Worst seasonal drop since 2008, -25x of 10-year average, JPR found that AIB shipments during Q4 2012 behaved according to past years with regard to seasonality, but the drop was considerably more dramatic.
