Qualcomm shakes up top brass

Qualcomm Incorporated today announced that Steve Altman will become vice chairman, Steve Mollenkopf has been promoted to president & chief operating officer and Derek Aberle has been promoted to executive vice president & group president. Intel Acquires Navigation Service Provider Telmap

Today Intel announced the acquisition of Navigation and Location-Based Service Provider Telmap. During the announcement, Peter Biddle, general manager of AppUp, said that Telmap will allow Intel to provide AppUp developers with differentiated location capabilities in the form of a standard set of location-based APIs and software that developers can easily integrate into their AppUp apps.

Autodesk takes a big step into The Cloud

A new portfolio of web services will focus on file sharing, rendering, and simulation. The goal is to extend the capabilities of desktop applications and mobile apps with services best suited for cloud computing. Initially more than a dozen services will be available. AMD unveils new Embedded Discrete GPU at ESC Boston

Pixologic is set to release ZBrush 4R2 upgrage

ZBrush 4R2, previewed at SIGGRAPH, has an improved BPR renderer with a full 32-bit floating-point HDR pipeline. With ZBrush 4R2 Pixologic also introduces Dynamesh which promises to improve workflow by enabling the user to explore concepts without having to produce a base mesh. DisplayLink Debuts USB 3.0 Graphics Adapter

Today at IDF DisplayLink demonstrated Winstars, a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter, to interface HD displays to PCs. “Winstars is set to deliver a very well-timed connectivity solution that builds on the inherent performance benefits of SuperSpeed USB 3.0,” said Dennis Crespo.
