GPUs to the rescue for Intel

Has the viability of the product and group finally been settled?

Intel’s discrete GPU efforts began in November 2017 with Raja Koduri’s hiring. The first dGPU for laptops was DG1, aka Iris Xe Max with Xe-LP architecture, in October 2020, and for desktops in January 2021. This was followed by the Arc A380 with Xe architecture in June 2022 in China, and then by Arc A770/A750 in October 2022 globally. Despite early struggles, including financial issues, layoffs, and a decision to halt reporting GPU results, CEO Pat Gelsinger reaffirmed Intel’s commitment to the GPU market in 2022.
